It’s in the Details – Fasteners

When we think about ordering warehouse shelving, we do not think about all the details that come with it, like the fasteners. Each type of shelving at Shelving Concepts requires a distinct size nut and bolt. Depending on what type of shelving you are in the market for, a fastener could add to the cost of your shelving, but it also adds to the life of your shelving. Shelving Concepts provides various nuts and bolts that are up to grade standard so you as the consumer do not have to replace them over time.

Cantilever

Shelving Concepts uses a 3/4″-10 x 2″ Hex Cap Screw Grade 5 Zinc plated bolt and 3/4″-10 Finished Hex Nut Zinc plated. We use a grade 5 bolt because they are a high strength fastener made with carbon steel alloy. Grade 5 fasteners are heat treated to increase their tensile strength. Shelving Concepts uses a zinc plated fastener for our cantilever line. Some cantilever set-ups are in an outdoor setting, the zinc plating allows for outdoor and marine use. The zinc layer protects the underlying steel from rust and corrosion.

Pallet Rack Row Spacers

Some companies want to increase their racking footprint with row spacers. Shelving Concepts offers a variety of rows spacer sizes, depending on your end goal. The row spacers we manufacture are placed onto your pallet rack uprights with a 1/2″-13 X 3/4″ Grade 5 Zinc Finish Hex Cap Screw fastener and 1/2″-13 Finished Hex Nut Grade 5 Zinc Plated nut. A grade 2 fastener works just as well as the grade 5 and is more cost effective, however, a grade 5 are used to ensure the strength and longevity of the fastener.

Industrial Metal Shelving & Widespan Shelving

Shelving Concepts metal shelving uses fasteners for the top and bottom shelves. Depending on the size of widespan shelving you purchase, a fastener is needed for your FA bracing. Both shelving units use a and 1/4″-20 Grade 2 Hex Nut Zinc. Grade 2 are used in these types of applications as these are low-capacity shelving options. A grade 2 fastener is a low or medium-carbon steel bolt with a tensile strength of around 60,000 PSI. The zinc coating will also help against rust and corrosion even though we recommend this type of shelving be in an enclosed space and not out in the elements.

No matter what type of shelving you purchase, Shelving Concepts will take the worry out of the details. Contact your sales rep today to get pricing for whatever shelving and fasteners you are in the market for.
