Shelving Concepts offers two types of shelving for your interior spaces, metal shelving and widespan shelving. There are times when we need to increase our capacity in our storage without losing space, which is where widespan comes in. Shelving Concepts offers a variety of sizes and a couple of options based on the capacity you are looking for.
Widespan is also known as rivet shelving and comes in two types of channel beams, single and double. Capacity is based off the longer piece within your dimensions. The shorter the piece the more capacity you can get out of a single unit, so you can mix and match your pieces to create a unit from 12”x 12” all the way to 48”x96”. Being able to mix and match your sizes gives this product such a versatile style to meet any customer’s needs.
Shelving Concepts’ widespan shelving is made with coiled steel, which is formed, punched, riveted, and power coated here in our Houston location. We outsource all particleboard; however, we cut to size all particleboard for orders. If you require a unit larger than 48”, support Fore & Aft braces are required to keep the particle board from bowing or breaking after the product is stored on the shelves.
Does Widespan fit your Capacity needs?
Larger capacity items will require a two-channel rivet beam (2RCB). This beam would run the length of the shelving to support the particleboard. With a two channel beam your capacities range from 982 lbs. per level with a 96” 2RCB to 2,715 lbs. per level with a 48” 2RCB.
Midrange capacities will require just a single channel rivet beam (2RB). Your capacities would run from 585 lbs. per level for a 96” 2RB to 3,235 lbs. per level for 12” 2RB.
These capacities will have to coincide with your post type and openings per level. Each post will hold a capacity ranging from 7,100 lbs. to 10,000 lbs.; however, this is based on the openings between each level. A unit with smaller openings, the posts will support a higher capacity, verses one with larger openings.
